WELCOME TO THE
JUST TO GET YOU STARTED .....
Take a look at these fantastic photos of GTWY greyhound Hettie and GTWY volunteer Andy. It has been several years now since they chose each other; and recently they have been models for photographer, Lorraine Spittle LRPS, for a project she is submitting to the Royal Photographic Society on the relationship between dogs and their owners.
Thank you Lorraine for allowing us to publish them - and
WOW- they certainly show the love and joy that a greyhound can bring to your life.
With the easing of lockdown restrictions we have been able make progress and home some hounds!
We have to go slow and steady for the moment, not least because it is still difficult to arrange neutering - a prerequisite for all homings.
We know there are people itching to take a greyhound into their family and can only say - please be patient - everyone's health and safety and the greyhounds' best interests have to be the top priorities.
But if you are thinking of homing a greyhound
GIVE KATH A CALL - 07723 027995
You could start the process and be ready to go as soon as there is a greyhound for you!
IT WILL BE WORTH THE WAIT!
AND SO THAT YOU CAN SEE IT WILL BE WORTH WAITING FOR - CHECK OUT JUST SOME OF THE LOVELY GREYHOUNDS ALREADY HOMED IN 2020 .....
Please remember that all kennel visits are by appointment only
that the arrangements are made via Kath and
will be made according to the suitability of individual circumstances for the greyhounds available at the time.

CLYDE MOVED TO HIS
NEW HOME ON
SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2019
We followed HIS real-life, real-time story up to Christmas 2019, as he adapted from working life to retirement as a pet.
He has now had his first 'Gotcha Day' & thought it was time to bring everyone up to date with this addition to his diary .....
CLYDE'S DIARY UPDATE
14TH SEPTEMBER 2020
It's my Gotcha Day!
Wow, I’m home - I mean really home! I thought it was good when I first moved in with Bonnie, mum & dad; but I’ve been here a year now. It's my first anniversary &, boy, am I settled & happy.
I’ve learnt all sorts of things through the year. I will eat anything now - even rice, my confidence has built up, I’ve made lots of friends, I love going out for walks or in the car & if we take a picnic, that's even better. I get on great with Bonnie & if we are both in the mood to play its 'watch-out mum & dad' cos both of us race around the garden & into the house.
At bedtime I get nice & cosy on the sofa & sleep there until the morning.
LOTS OF LEARNING!
The only thing that I haven’t mastered is going up the stairs, but mum says that doesn’t matter - the strange thing is that I can do steps easily when I am outside - never mind, there's no harm in keeping mum & dad guessing.
As for the car - it only took me 6 months & mum changing the car but I do now manage to jump in all by myself!
I highly recommend sharing your humans' food if it’s offered but you have to remember your manners ...
I had been promised holidays; Bonnie recommended them but Mum says that because of that Covid thingy everything had to stop for a long time - I had to stop talking to my human & doggy friends for ages & life went very quiet. This made me lose my confidence over the months, but all that has come back to me now that we are getting out more & seeing things again.
I’ve even been out in the motorhome, including to sleep in it!
BRING ON THE HOLIDAYS!
Wow, I didn't know that you could sleep in motorhomes & stay away from home for the night - I do now! I have been on a mini holiday & I got to sleep in the motorhome for the first time, it was great snuggled up to mum all night. I was really good when we were travelling & then we got to share lots of food & treats & lovely walks with mum & dad. Mum says that next year when we go on holiday it will be for longer so I say 'bring it on'!
I nearly forgot - I went to the seaside for the first time as well! All that fresh air tired me out
WHAT ARE MY FAVOURITE THINGS YOU MAY ASK?
Cuddles - no question
Resting - obvious
My toys - sometimes I even like to get all my toys out of the toy box at once
Walks and picnics
Sunning myself in the garden
Playing with Bonnie
Sharing mum and dad's food
And I think I am going to love holidays!
Its a hard life being a retired racing greyhound but I'm coping
GREAT THINGS STILL TO COME
I still have one or two things that will suddenly spook me but mum says that I have done really well in my first year especially as we had to put up with Covid-19 half way through it.
One of the things I have really missed because of Covid is seeing all my greyhound & human friends from GTWY, I love it when I see a greyhound if we are out on a walk & always want to talk to them & their owners but mum says that we have to stay safe & not rush to meet up with every-one until it is safe enough.
If that was my first year, roll on the next few years cos I reckon it will be even better!
